THANK YOU SENATOR BONACIC AND THE COMMUNITY CAPITAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM! The Woodstock Artists Association & Museum (WAAM) is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a $50,000 grant obtained by Senator John Bonacic through the Community Capital Assistance Program. Funding will assist the WAAM with capital improvements on the interior and exterior of the building. Senator Bonacic visited the WAAM galleries recently and enjoyed a private tour with the staff and board members. Much lively discussion ensued around various issues such as tourism and the demographics in our area, the WAAM’s role in providing arts education for local students, the history of the arts in Woodstock, and of course, the extensive contemporary art scene in the region.
The WAAM was established in 1919 and is one of the oldest arts organizations of its kind. As a not-for- profit membership organization, the WAAM promotes, supports and fosters the visual arts and art education. WAAM gallery spaces for contemporary artists give members the opportunity to publicly exhibit their work monthly in professionally juried shows. Their work is a diverse representation of the scope of talented artists living in the surrounding communities. The Towbin Museum Wing displays selected work from our Permanent Collection in curated exhibitions that change quarterly. Many nationally and internationally known artists who lived and worked in Woodstock over the past century comprise this outstanding collection. The Archives are a resource for scholars and historians of American art and hold a rich collection of photos and documentation relating to past and present Woodstock artists. Our Museum Educator extends the history of these artists into the schools and provides inspiring, creative projects and opportunities for all local students. Various other culturally related events are presented throughout the year, such as music, theater, and dance.
The staff and board of the Woodstock Artists Association & Museum would like to express their great appreciation to Senator Bonacic and the Community Capital Assistance Program for this grant. The upgrades to our facilities will serve to enhance our professional gallery space for members to exhibit their work, improve the museum wing and vault storage for the Permanent Collection, develop the archives and educational programming, and above all, to continue being a cultural magnet for art lovers visiting and living in the Woodstock community.
